Our mission is to plan, prepare for and mitigate emergencies; educate the public on preparedness; coordinate and support responses to and recovery from emergencies; collect and disseminate critical information; and seek and obtain funding and other aid in support of overall preparedness for the City of Richmond.


Spotlight

Tornado Preparedness Day in Virginia is Tuesday, March 16 . The statewide tornado drill will be conducted at 9:45 a.m. that day.


Disasters and emergencies occur despite our best efforts. Knowing how to deal with events reduces loss of life and property both now and in the future. The Office of Emergency Management provides resources and knowledge in four major areas: Preparedness, Response, Recovery and Mitigation.
