| Abstract: Contains features representing common places in and around the City of Richmond. Criteria for consideration as a landmark includes the following: (1) Does the site possess a significant physical presence? One measure of this is whether a tourist would be likely to notice it. These sites also tend to appear on common road maps. A structure does not need to be present to meet this criteria. (2) Is the site a historic landmark? All National Register and locally-designated sites are included, in addition to those sites that might reasonably be expected to be eligible for formal designation. (3) Do activities at the site provide an important service or function? Almost any function provided by a public or semi-public agency qualifies here. Many private functions may also be considered, particularly if they are large employers or are well known local businesses. | |||
| Purpose: This dataset is designed both for cartographic display of common places and as the geometry source for a variety of enterprise datasets that depend on joins with these features. Multiple geometric representations are provided to accommodate different business purposes. | |||
