| Abstract: Represents Street Sweeping Areas. The Department of Public Works Division of Environmental Maintenance sweeps and flushes the City's streets. | |||
| Purpose: This feature class defines/describes the extent and boundaries of the Street Sweeping Areas for use in GIS mapping and geospatial analysis. The Street Sweeping areas also support the relating of properties (hence addresses) to the correlating Street Sweeping Schedule for use in the City's data warehousing and central address systems; Street Maintenance and Snow Removal do not contain schedules. | |||
| Supplemental Information: The Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining the surface condition of streets, sidewalks, and alleys throughout the City. Approximately 22,000 lane-miles of streets are swept each year to remove tons of debris and to keep it from entering the stormwater system and, subsequently, our local waterways. Due to the nature of street sweeping equipment, only streets with curbs and gutters are routinely swept. Therefore, the StreetSweeping feature class does not cover all areas of the City.
