| Abstract: Represents street intersections. Intersections are points that are always present at the end points of Road features, but are not modeled to always exist at Carriageway end points. Intersections have topological relationship classes to Roads, so they are related to intersecting street names; and Carriageways via database relationships. | |||
| Purpose: Intersections are inventoried as part of Public Works' Asset Management processes; they are a critical part of the transportation infrastructure. Intersections are 'typed' to provide information such as whether traffic signals or signs are positioned to control traffic flow. Intersections are tightly coupled to Public Works' Asset Management system also because Transportation Asset features track the IntersectionID if they are within a certain distance of intersections. This enables Public Works to account for assets by intersection. | |||
| Supplemental Information: Intersections were created from end points of Road features during the original creation of the transportation model. The intersection feature class was provided to Public Works' asset management vendor, who assigned all of the additional attribution that 'typed' them and related them to Transportation Assets. Feature level metadata is provided in the EditBy and EditDate fields. Every feature in the GIS layer tracks who edited it, and when it was last edited.
