Sergeant of the Month

In August crime was down in the Mosby and Fulton neighborhoods and a large part of the credit for the reductions in theses areas goes to First Precinct Sgt. Warren Andorfer.

As First Precinct's evening sergeant, he is always looking for deployment strategies to reduce crime during these hours.

For his actions and results, he is the Department's August Sergeant of the Month.

After consulting with the precinct's crime analyst, he set his sights on Mosby and Fulton. Andorfer enlisted the aid of the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority Police and initiated two traffic checkpoints, one warrant sweep and ensured officers on his shift were actively conducting directed patrol assignments.

These initiatives paid off with 43 arrests for violations ranging from suspended licenses to drug possession. Andorfer's officers also provided the precinct with 49 directed patrol hours in the targeted neighborhoods. In August, major crime for Mosby was down 30 percent, and down 27 percent in Fulton.

Andorfer also used these initiatives as leadership training opportunities for officers, assigning an officer to assist in the planning of each operation. This encourages the officers to be proactive and take ownership in problem-solving.

He also found time to attend the Mosby Court Tenant Council meeting to apprise residents of crime problems and how they were and would be addressed and made the rounds with First Precinct's Second Responders to six neighborhood events.

With the traffic checkpoints in Sectors 113 and 112 and the warrant sweep in Sector 111 and his attendance and participation in community activities, Andorfer made sure all of the bases were covered in August for First Precinct and therefore is deserving of the Department's Sergeant of the Month honors for his efforts last month. Great work Sergeant!
