GENERAL INFORMATION

The next election in the City of Richmond will be a Republican Party Primary election on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 for U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives, Fourth District. The purpose of this election is to nominate candidates for offices that will be on the ballot in November. Other primary elections previously ordered will not be held as only one candidate filed for those primaries. In those cases, the single candidate that filed will become the party's nominee and will have their name appear on the ballot in the November general election.

All polling places in the City of Richmond will be open for the Republican Party primary election from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The deadline to register to vote is Monday, May 21, 2018. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot through the mail is Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 5 PM. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot in person (with limited exceptions) is Saturday, June 9, 2018. The Office of the General Registrar is open for absentee voting during the week from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Absentee voting for the primary election will start no later than April 27, 2018.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE POLLING PLACE CHANGES FOR PRECINCTS 101, 102 AND 413.

PHOTO ID REQUIREMENT

Photo ID is now required to vote at your polling place or in person absentee voting. Acceptable forms of photo ID include: valid Virginia Driver's license; DMV issued photo ID; valid United States passport; valid employee photo ID; other government issued photo ID; and, valid Virginia college or university student photo ID. If you do not have an acceptable form of photo ID, you may get a free one for voting purposes at any local Virginia voter registration office. ONLINE VOTER REGISTRATION

Voters who have a valid Virginia driver's license or other DMV ID can now register to vote or update their voter registration directly online at www.elections.virginia.gov. Paper applications are available online at www.elections.virginia.gov, at all City libraries and post offices, Virginia DMV offices and all Virginia Voter registration offices.
