GENERAL INFORMATION

The next election in the City of Richmond will be a General and Special Election on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Offices on the ballot in this election will be Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Virginia House of Delegates, Commonwealth's Attorney, Sheriff, Treasurer and School Board, Third District. A referendum question will also be on the ballot. Click below to view sample ballots.

The deadline to register to vote is Monday, October 16, 2017. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot through the mail is Tuesday, October 31, 2017. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot in person (with limited exceptions) is Saturday, November 4, 2017. The Office of the General Registrar is open for absentee voting during the week from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and on Saturday, October 28 and November 4, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

PHOTO ID REQUIREMENT

Photo ID is now required to vote at your polling place or in person absentee voting. Acceptable forms of photo ID include: valid Virginia Driver's license; DMV issued photo ID; valid United States passport; valid employee photo ID; other government issued photo ID; and, valid Virginia college or university student photo ID. If you do not have an acceptable form of photo ID, you may get a free one for voting purposes at any local Virginia voter registration office. ONLINE VOTER REGISTRATION

Voters who have a valid Virginia driver's license or other DMV ID can now register to vote or update their voter registration directly online at www.elections.virginia.gov. Paper applications are available online at www.elections.virginia.gov, at all City libraries and post offices, Virginia DMV offices and all Virginia Voter registration offices.
