GENERAL INFORMATION

The next election in the City of Richmond will be a General and Special Election on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives -- Fourth District and School Board, 7th District. There will also be two Constitutional amendments on the ballot. Click here to view sample ballots for this election.

All polling places in the City of Richmond will be open for this election from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The deadline to register to vote is Monday, October 15, 2018. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot through the mail is Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 5 PM. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot in person (with limited exceptions) is Saturday, November 3, 2018. The Office of the General Registrar is open for absentee voting during the week from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, as well as Saturday, October 27 and November 3, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Absentee voting for this election will start no later than September 21, 2018.

PHOTO ID REQUIREMENT

Photo ID is now required to vote at your polling place or in person absentee voting. Acceptable forms of photo ID include: valid Virginia Driver's license; DMV issued photo ID; valid United States passport; valid employee photo ID; other government issued photo ID; and, valid Virginia college or university student photo ID. If you do not have an acceptable form of photo ID, you may get a free one for voting purposes at any local Virginia voter registration office. ONLINE VOTER REGISTRATION

Voters who have a valid Virginia driver's license or other DMV ID can now register to vote or update their voter registration directly online at www.elections.virginia.gov. Paper applications are available online at www.elections.virginia.gov, at all City libraries and post offices, Virginia DMV offices and all Virginia Voter registration offices.
