The MDA Communication Enhancements project is complete. It will enhance emergency communications with respect to the Port of Richmond. The Project includee the procurement of portable 800 MHz radios and chargers and a satellite and cellular communications package that will cost-effectively enhance the city of Richmond's Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) and enhancement of IED and WMD prevention, protection, response, and recovery capabilities. The satellite and cellular communication package include the ability to connect to the internet to gain access to critical systems including the city's 9-1-1 system, pictometry, response unit GPS information, as well as several other critical systems. In addition this package includes IP phone systems and the ability to access the wireless surveillance system that is currently planned for the port. The overall purpose of the funding action is to enhance the Nation's port and maritime infrastructure to prevent, protect, respond to, and recover from threats or acts of terrorism. $133,776 in Recovery Act funds were used to complete this project.
