Team Up Richmond provides after school activities for students in each of the city's middle schools, four elementary schools and two high schools with a free after school environment that combines academics, tutoring, athletics, performing arts and personal growth and development programs.
The program is designed to enhance student's educational experience by providing safe after-school academic and enrichment opportunities. Over 1,800 students participate in activities which include: baseball, track and field events, flag football, soccer, basketball, swimming, tennis, golf, softball, volleyball, bowling, double-dutch, dance, and step teams. Programs (many of which are co-ed) are designed for boys and girls of all abilities.
The educational component of Team Up Richmond provides teachers at each site, who focus on assisting the schools in preparing students to meet daily academic requirements and the Virginia Standards of Learning Exam (SOL).
Team Up's community service component involves student visits to local assisted living homes, retirement homes, and area children's hospitals. During these visits students engage in activities, performances, or just friendly conversation with residents or patients.
Team Up Techies" is Team Up's technology component which uses ECPI interns to teach students to disassemble a computers hard drive, install a cd-rom drive & modem, and assemble the computer. It is a 30 hour course. At the end of the program, students are able to take home their computer.
The purpose of the program is to improve computer literacy, increase home access, and enhance Team Up's tutorial component with the use of educational software.
Team Up Partners
Through the years, Team Up has developed strategic partnerships with key organizations. Team Up would not be successful without its strong partnership with Richmond Public Schools, the City of Richmond Department of Parks and Recreation and Community Facilities, the City Administration, and local universities, businesses, foundations and other non-profit organizations. Our partners are instrumental in helping us meet the demands of providing services for nearly 2,000 students.
For a complete list of partners go to the Team Up Richmond website.
Team Up Richmond is open to all students enrolled in Richmond Public Middle Schools and students at J.L. Francis and Southampton Elementary Schools.
