Kudos to Shanique Scott for "Stepping" up to the challenge in Data Operations. For her hard work in keeping the work moving even when coworkers were out with serious illnesses, Scott is one of the October Civilians of the Month.
Scott's flexibility, willingness, and steadfast reliable work enabled her to perform her normal duties and those of the supervisor, keeping things on track and up-to-date. Her regular job duties include the keying of arrest reports, FR-300 accident reports, traffic summonses, truancy reports and juvenile violation reports.
This supervisor-level work has been done in a thorough manner and completed sufficiently early in the day to enable the remaining staff to keep up with minimal backlogging. All of this is in addition to her regular duties. Great work Ms. Scott!
Carolyn Wright of our Human Resources Division always works diligently to bring specialized training to the Department, and her latest task was even more challenging in these tight economic times. That's why she's one of our October Civilians of the Month.
Not only did she find the financial means to support a unique and different program called 'Financial Peace University,' she has worked tirelessly on her own time to see its success for the Department.
After taking the courses herself, she truly felt they would benefit Richmond Police employees and their families.
Financial Peace University is a great program that empowers the participant with the practical skills and confidence needed to achieve financial goals and experience true financial peace!
During the month of October, Sherie Newton handled 53 phone calls from department members to include the Fourth Precinct Commander, Sector Lieutenants, FMT Lieutenants and Precinct Detectives who needed her to prepare DMV Photos, Nexus Lexus Reports and Photo Lineups, to help the Precinct Detectives and Sector Lieutenants with Robbery and Theft from Motor Vehicle suspects to quickly bring them to justice or obtain warrants for their arrest.
She prepared Maps, Tactical, and Strategic information that assisted in apprehending and/or identifying suspects and crime patterns. During all this she handled calls requesting assistance from other law enforcement agencies. She prepared five FYI reports, submitted fifteen phone subpoenas for the Fourth Precinct FMT Detectives, attended 10 meetings/training classes during the month.
On two occasions in October, Sherie prepared crime analyst reports and detailed maps for the Fourth Precinct Commander and Sector Lieutenants for their Target presentations. At the request of the Robbery Task Force she prepared a comprehensive FYI PowerPoint presentation to include aerial maps of the Walgreen’s at 1157 Azalea Avenue, which had been robbed three times over a three-week period. She also was tasked to do the following projects during the month of October: Richmond Six Points Drug Free Zone, School Arrests and Calls for Service, which are ongoing.
Sherie has demonstrated a proactive approach along with a genuine concern for the problem areas within Fourth Precinct. Sherie has an exceptional attitude, a work ethic that is second to none, and is an instrumental part of the Fourth Precinct Team as well as the Department as a whole.
In October, the FMT Lieutenant and Detectives at Fourth Precinct thrived under Sherie’s mentorship and instruction as it pertains to analyzing Nexus Lexus Reports and explaining to them how the Blue Spider Program can better assist them in their investigations. She also set up a Facebook ghost account and showed the FMT Unit how to use it to aid them in their investigations.
Sherie also attended precinct roll calls during the month of October and answered questions that were asked by the sergeants and officers in reference to current crime trends and patterns that were taking place not only in Fourth Precinct but citywide.
Sherie rode with Sergeant Miles who was assisting one of the detectives with a robbery that had taken place in the 3400 block of Chamberlayne Avenue. This may seem unusual for those who do not know her, but it is not uncommon for Sherie to ride with the Fourth Precinct Detectives or officers during their tour of duty. She does this so she has first-hand experience to better assist the officers and detectives with their investigations and preparing crime analyst reports.
Sherie also attended the following meetings in October that were outside of her normal scheduled work hours: Brookland Park Merchants Association Meeting and Mayors Town Hall Meeting. Sherie volunteered to be a actress in a skit the was part of the Domestic Violence Seminar that was co-sponsored by the Richmond Police Department and held at the Richmond Police Training academy. She also volunteered and participated in the Domestic Violence Walk that was held at Byrd Park.
