Civilian of the Month

Our Civilians of the Month for September – Stephen Hollifield and Ken Swindell

As the masterminds behind the new system that makes nominations for the “A Step Above” Award for the Civilian of the Month easier, it’s only fitting that Stephen Hollifield and Ken Swindell are the honorees for September.

In an effort to revitalize and increase nominations for the "A Step Above" Award that recognizes civilian personnel in the Department, Ken, head of our Project Management Office, took an idea and worked with Stephen, who is in charge of our Records and Technology Division, to create an easy online recognition process for capturing nominations.

The program is easy to use and has proven its success in the increased number of submissions of nominations of civilian employees for their work.

Nominations had decreased over the past several months and by no fault of the civilian employees doing great things day in and day out for Richmond Police Department.

Now, with the electronic version of the “A Step Above Award” nomination process, committee members have seen a noticeable increase in the nominations.

The online program also has a security mechanism in place and also assists in calculating for the voting process.

The beauty of the system is anyone can submit a nominee without the formal process of writing a long, formal memo. It only takes a couple of clicks on the computer.

Thanks to Stephen and Ken, more Department employees are being recognized for their work — including them. Great job!
