Communications Officer of the Month

Congratulations to our January Communications Officer of the Month Margie Andrews!

In addition to being incredibly efficient at her job, CO Andrews is a team player who is dependable during any critical incident. She exhibits a calm and confident demeanor during crisis situations.

That trait was never more on display, or more needed, than at 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday Jan. 27. That’s when a fellow communications officer, who was 7 months pregnant, suddenly became ill while working a police channel. The coworker began actively seizing, and then fell unconscious.

EMS was called, but it was CO Andrews, who responded. CO Andrews, who is a certified EMT, immediately took charge of the situation. She used the available tools in the orange jump boxes to monitor her coworker’s vital signs and prevent further injury while waiting for EMS. She never left her coworker’s side.

Through this entire incident she remained calm and collected, and very much in control. This made a tremendous impression on the rest of the communications officers on the floor, at a time when most of them were very frightened.

The coworker and her baby are now fine, thanks in large part to CO Andrews’ skill and calm demeanor during a crisis. It’s for this reason and more that CO Andrews is the January Communications Officer of the Month. Good job!
