Our Communications Officer of the Month for November – Tabitha Roane
When an officer is engaged in a foot pursuit, the support of the communications officer on the radio is crucial to the safety of the officer and the successful apprehension of the suspect.
In her three years with DEC, Communications Officer Tabitha Roane has realized the importance of the supporting role she plays in these incidents.
On two consecutive nights she successfully handled two foot pursuits that resulted in arrests while working Police Channel 1 . The first was a brief pursuit near Bryan and Redd streets. Tabitha was alert and attentive to the details as the incident transpired. The suspect was caught in less than a minute.
The next night she performed in the same exemplary manner in handling a pursuit radio call in the 3300 block of Bunche Place that resulted in an arrest in less than 60 seconds.
Tabitha has proven time and time again that she is able to keep her cool while working under extreme pressure – the ideal of a communications officer.
In addition, Tabitha consistently maintains an average ring rate of five seconds and answered 500 emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatched more than 500 police events for service over a single five-day period last month.
Tabitha really represents for DEC. Congratulations!
